Creativity and Innovation day
11.06.2011, 13:18:16

Objectives:/Цель и задачи урока:

  1. Pp will be able
  2. To consolidate what they have learned in the unit
  3. To practise work co-operatively and more independently
  4. To practise presentation skills
  5. To practise applying evaluation criteria to their peers’ projects.

Aids:/учебные пособия the computer presentation "Inventions”, cards of evaluation.

PLAN

I. Beginning/Начало урока

Do you know anything about Creativity and Innovation day?

CID was founded on  1 June, 2001 to encourage people all over the world to use their creative capacities to make the world a better place and to make their place in the world better too.Its motto is " Think globally, act locally.”

The CID week in 2003 witnessed over 50 events involving more than 1000 people.

Today we are celebrating our day of Innovation and Creativity. You will see useful and funny projects of other people and demonstrate yours.

II. Warm – up/Речевая разминка Can all people be inventors? Why (not)?

III. Watching the presentation/Показ презентации

Read the texts about funny inventions.

Answer the questions.

FOOD FAN

Tired of blowing on hot food? Try the Food Fan! You attach this fan to your

chopsticks or fork and it makes your food cool enough to eat.

Question:

What does this fan do?

fan – вентилятор

to аttach - прикреплять

'Butter stick‘

This 'butter stick‘works just like a glue stick so you don't need a knife.

Question:

Why do you think ‘butter stick’ was invented?

glue stick – клеевой карандаш

FISH RADIO

This useful radio is completely waterproof so  you can listen to it in the shower.

Simply stick it on the bathroom wall  and sing along to your favourite songs as you shower.

Question:

Why can you listen to this radio in the shower?

Waterproof – непромокаемый

Stick- приклеить

NOSE PAPER

You'll probably look a bit silly with this gadget on your head, but it's very useful when you have a cold.

Question:

When can you use this gadget?

gadget –  разг. приспособление (в механизме)

DUSTER SLIPPERS

Tired of dusting? Then put these special shoes on your cat (or dog).

As the animal runs about your house,  it collects dust from the floor, cupboards, etc. Very  useful!

Question:

How can the animal

collect dust?

CLEVER TOILET

Traditional Japanese toilets don't have a seat at all (they are holes in the floor) so when the Japanese  first tried western-style toilets people must have

had a bit of a shock at the cold seat! As a result, some bright spark invented  the heated toilet seat! Modern Japanese toilets also play music and some

have a remote control, too!

Question:

What conveniences does the

Japanese toilet have?

Bright spark – светлая голова

Remote control – пульт  дистанционного управления

сonveniences – удобства

VIDEOKE

Karaoke (which means 'empty orchestra' in Japanese) comes from Japan. It gives you the chance to sing your favourite songs and pretend to be a pop star. In Japan, there's something called videoke, too — where you can act out scenes from your favourite film.

Question:

Does videoke give you a chance to be a pop star or a film star?

CAPSULE HOTELS

Since so many people live in Japan, they have little place. In big cities, like Tokyo, you can find capsule hotels.  Each room has a mattress on the floor, a TV-set and air-conditioning.  There's enough room to lie down to sleep, but not to stand up and walk around. It's a bit like sleeping in a space ship!

Questions: Why did Japanese invent capsule hotels?

Mattress {maetris} – матрац ;  make – получать ; amount – количество

Questions:

What funny invention did you like? Why?

What invention is the most silly? Why?

What invention is the most original, creative? Why?

IV. Watch and read the information about useful inventions; do the tasks/Изучение информации и выполнение заданий

Nicephore Niepce from France invented photography in 1829.

In 1876 Alexander Graham Bell, an American engineer, invented telephone.

In 1879 Thomas Alva Edison invented the electric light bulb.

V. Presentation of the Pp projects./Показ презентаций учащихся
T:We desided with you to invent funny things on theme "School”.You were divided into 5 groups, as you know.Today you will advertise and show us  your inventions. Be ready to present your invention to the experts. The experts are all of you . Each group should fill in  an avaluation card.

Activity:

Pp present their inventions using the visual support they have prepaired

at home.Make sure that Pp fill in their evaluation cards during the stage.

Allow a couple of minutes for Pp to collect their thoughts and decide on the best invention and think of the arguments individually.Tell them to use the evaluation cards.

Open the discussion. Pp take turns to give their opinions and provide arguments to support their ideas. Vote on the best invention and the best presenter.

1.Crib
T-shirts

2. Crib-  book

3.Cork holder

4.A bag of
newcomer

5.Mini-darts

 Pupils’ projects

1. A crib –T-shirt

You should sew a  pocket  out of a transparant cloth on the back of your

T-shirt and put in it a neseccary crib, for e.g.” The table of irregular English verbs”. You can also write with a marker "The table of English tenses” just on the shirt. But these cribs are not for you but for your friend!

2. A crib – book

This crib is only for you.You can cut out  ‘a door’ at the back of your workbook or a copybook and put a crib in ‘the door’. To use it you should be very careful. The      teacher can easily notice it! But I hope while you are writing this crib you will  remember a lot and won’t need to open ‘the door’!

3.A cork holder

You will need several corks from bottles.Cut the rings 5 mm wide out of them.

Then glue  them with equal intervals along the upper edge of the blackboard.

Your teachers will be very glad to use these cork holders for hanging maps,  tables, posters, pictures and so on.

4. A school bag of newcomer

Sometimes you have to change a school or a class. This invention will be useful for  not so strong and confident  boys and girls. You should attach a transparant plastic pocket on the outside of your schoolbag. The boy can fill in the pocket the portrait of the famous boxer with an inscription ‘My elder brother’. The girl can fill in the picture of very handsome young man with the inscription ‘My last boy-friend’.Everybody would think,”What a cool boy!(girl)! I should meet her!”

5. Mini – darts

For playing darts at school you can make very easy target out of corks.

Cut out a ring out of cardboard and devide it in 8 segments. Take some corks and cut  33 cork rings 5 mm thick out of them. Then glue the rings on the ring as it is shown in the picture. One is in the center and 2 rings are on each rib of the segment. Write the numbers on the rings with the marker. You should also make mini-darts out of wooden sticks or toothpicks and pins. Good luck!

VI. Summary/Подведение итогов

T.: Today is a great day for us! You have presented your first inventions. Probably they are not very fundamental but useful for students and even teachers. All of you have demonstrated creativity, ability to work in a team and a good sense of humour! Besides you tried to evaluate your friends’ projects providing just arguments and trying to express your own opinion. Thank you! Good job!
