Ход урока
I. Организационный момент
- Today we will start speaking about the main British and Russian holidays,
and we'll see what holidays the British usually spend with their families. You
will read and Usten a lot.
II. Фонетическая разминка
— As usual, we start with pronunciation. Open your workbooks at p. 59. In
ex. 1 you see the names of the days of the week in transcription. First write
them in letters. Then consult the dictionaries. Learn to pronounce them
correctly. Read the words in a chain.
P1,P2, P3,etc.
— What do you usually do on Mondays
(Tuesdays, etc.) after classes? What do you like to do at weekends? Do you
spend them with your family? What do you usually do?

— And how do you usually spend holidays? What
do you do? Where do you go?
- Let's revise the holidays people celebrate
in Russia, Great Britain and other English-speaking countries. Open your books
at p. 104. See ex. 1. Repeat the names of the holidays after me first.
TAPs.
- Now Vova reads, others repeat. PI -> Ps.
- Match the holidays and the countries where
they are celebrated. To check your answers listen to the tape. Give a full
answer. (In Australia people celebrate Christmas, St Valentine's Day and
Australia Day, etc.)
— Choose one of the holidays and in pairs
prepare a story about it. Use the Linguistic and Cultural Guide. Then tell the
class about it.

People celebrate Christmas on the 25th of
December in the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It is held in
honour of the birth of the Christ.
People celebrate St Valentine's Day on the
14th of February in the UK, the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. On that
day people send special cards to someone they love. Usually they don't sign
their names.
They celebrate Australia Day in Australia on
the 26th of January. It is an Australian public national holiday. It
commemorates the arrival of the First English Fleet in 1788.
Canadian people celebrate Canada Day on the 1st
of July. It is a Canadian national public holiday.
On the 4th of July there comes Independence
Day which is celebrated in the USA. The Day is celebrated all over the country
with parades, picnics and fireworks at night.
Waitangi Day (or New Zealand Day) is a
national public holiday in New Zealand. It is held on February, 6th.
The 9th of May is a Victory Day in Russia. It
commemorates the end of the Great Patriotic War in Russia.
The National Independence Day in Russia is
the 12th of June.
Russian people celebrate the birth of the
Christ on the 7th of January. It is Christmas.
IV. Обучение чтению
— Let's read some information about a popular American holiday
Thanksgiving Day. But first learn to pronounce some proper names. See ex. 46.
Listen and repeat. Read the words in a chain.
— Look at the picture in ex. 47. Say what
people usually do on Thanksgiving Day. Is it a family hoUday?
— See if you are right. Read the text.
— I see that you are tired. Let's have a rest. Stand up, class.

— In ex. 48 there are the answers. Your task is to write the questions.
Begin them with the given words. First remind me the tongue twister with the
questions. Recite it all together.
