Goals:
- to develop listening, writing , speaking skills , the ability to give
opinion on the giving theme.
- to help students to realize that they can protect the environment and
should do something to solve the problems of pollution.
Equipment: a computer, a tape recorder, an apple, a paper tree, leaves,
a plastic bottle, cards.

II. The introduction.
Good morning boys and girls. The theme of our lesson today is ,,The earth
is our home ". We ‘ll speak about our planet, listen to
the text, write essay and have fun during our lesson.

Looking at these beautiful pictures of our land I’d like to begin the lesson
with the poem: (Слайд 2 с написанным стихотворением.)
The Earth is a garden
It’s a beautiful place
For all living creatures
For all the human races
Helping Mother Earth
We can peacefully roam
We all diverse a place
We can call our home
III. Cluster.
I’ll write the word ,,The Earth ‘’ on the blackboard and ask you to
tell me the words , which come to you mind connecting with this word.
IV. Who will be the first ?
Who will be the first and write the words to each letter of the word ,,EARTH
’’
E – east, environment, ecology
A – air , animals , area
R – rainbow, river, radiation
T – tree, trash, temperature
H – home , hill , human
V. Essay.
The next task is to write a short essay on this theme during 4–5 minutes.
For example : Our land is full of beautiful plants, flowers, trees which grow
and blossom in our gardens, in the forests , near the rives. And there are our
smaller brothers– animals. They are in danger. We should help them. We have one
earth for all of us.
VI. Listening comprehension. (Слайд 3.)
Listen to the text " The new planet " Answer the questions and correct the
statements.
A science-fiction storyю
The spaceship flew around the planet several times. The planet was blue and
green. They couldn’t see the surface of the planet because there were too many
white clouds. Then the spaceship descended slowly through the clouds and landed
in the middle of the forest. The two astronauts put on their space suits, opened
the door, climbed carefully down the ladder and stepped onto the planet.
The woman looked at a small control unit on her arm. " It’s OK,” she said to
the man. "We can breathe the air. It’s a mixture of oxygen and nitrogen.” Both
of them took off their helmets and breathed deeply.
They looked at everything carefully. All the planet and animals looked new
and strange. They couldn’t find any intelligent life.
After several hours, they returned to their spaceship. Everything looked
normal. The man turned on the controls, but nothing happened. "Something ‘s
wrong " he said. " I don’ t understand. The engines aren’t working”. He switched
on the computer, but that didn’t work either. " Eve "he said "we ‘re stuck here.
We can’t take off ".
"Don’t worry, Adam” she replied.” They ‘ll rescue us soon ".
Questions:
- Where did the space ship fly around ?
- Why couldn’t they see the surface of the planet ?
- What did the astronauts put on ?
- What did they step onto ?
- Could they breath the air ?
- How did t he planet look ?
- What did they do after several hours ?
- Were the engines working?
- What did Eve reply ?
Correct the statements:
- The space ship flew around the new planet many times. (Several
times.)
- The planet was red and yellow . (Blue and green.)
- The space ship landed behind the green forest. (In the middle
of.)
- The three astronauts stepped onto the planet. (Two.)
- Both of them took off their spacesuits. (Helmets.)
- They could find intelligent life. (Couldn’t.)
- After several hours , they didn’t return to the space ship.
(Returned.)
- The engines were working. (Were not working.)
VII. Each one teaches one.
I think it’s time to have moving activity.
There are many proverbs and sayings about the earth. I’ll give you papers
with some proverbs written on them and a few minutes to teach each other the

VII. Time for fun. (Competition.)
Let’s relax a little and have short competition between two teams.

1. I took the poem and cut it into the pieces.
You will listen to the poem two times. Don’t turn over the pieces for the first
time. While listing the second time put these pieces into the order.

The Daffodils
W. Wordsworth
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

And twinkle on the Milky Way,

2. The next task. You can see the empty plastic
bottle.
Please think a little and say in turn from each team how to use these bottles
in order not to make garbage.
VIII. An apple as the world.
After relaxing I want you to be serious and think about the problems of our
planet. Look at this apple. Now use your imagination and say what does the apple
look like ? It looks like our earth.
I cut the apple into (4) quarters.
Three quarters of the Earth’s surface is water and only one quarter is land.
I cut the piece, represented the habitable land , into four pieces. Only 0,25
(a quarter) of the Earth’s habitable land is where all the Earth’s food comes
from. You can see that it is a very little piece and we should take care of it.
IX. Choosing the position.

The main problems of our earth are :
Water pollution , Air pollution , The land pollution.
You can see the tables with these problems. How do you think which of these
problems are more dangerous for us. Think a little and choose your position.

2. Discuss in your group why do you think this
pollution is more dangerous for us and give arguments.
3. Please work in groups and say how to solve this problem.
X. What can we do ?
– Put garbage in garbage bins.
– Plant trees , shrubs and flowers.
– Reduce using water, gas, electricity.
– Use recycling things.
– Make birds feeders.
– Clean parks, our school territory.

Now I’ll give you leaves. Please write your wishes and hang them on the tree.

XIII. Home task.
To write an essay what can you do in your village to make it cleaner and
more beautiful.
XIV. Conclusion.
We are all part of the natural environment. We need to think about our part
in the environment. If we don’t begin to change our behavior we will have no
world to live. We should love the beauty of the nature around us. |
