Ход
урока: I. Начало урока.
Определение темы и задач.
T: Hello, everyone! I’m glad to see you. How are you?
The theme of our lesson today
is "Teenage life”.
We’re going to speak about its
different sides, concerns and problems you have.
We’ll try to give you advice
how to overcome difficulties and to survive nowadays.
You’ll try to present your
projects on the topic. Ready?
II. Речевая зарядка (T-P1P2).
T: But first answer some
questions.
Is the topic interesting and
actual for you? Why?
What is a teenager?
What is it like to be a
teenager today?
Is teenage life more difficult
or easy than that of grown-ups?
What parts does a teenage life
consist of?
(
В процессе беседы учитель "рисует” " схему” подростковой жизни в форме
ромашки).
Where do teenagers spend the most of their
life?
Do you have a problem connected with
jobs?
The problem of health is also important for you,
isn’t it?
Do you think it’s possible to solve the
problems?
Now read the sentence (запись на доске: Facing teenagers’
problems young people learn to overcome difficulties.) How do you understand the words?
III. Презентация проектов.
1)
Вступительное слово учителя.
T: Today you’ve prepared
projects on the topic of our lesson.
Before you start I’d like to
remind 5 elements of effective presentation:
No nervousness (speak slower).
Vocal quality (be loud
enough).
Eye contact (be friendly with
the audience).
Body language (use natural
gestures).
Question time (don’t be afraid
of questions).
Take the advice into account
and you’ll succeed.
2)
Фонетическая отработка речевых клише.
T (показывая на плакат со списком вводных слов,
помогающих построить связное монологическое высказывание и выразить собственное
мнение):
Don’t forget to use the link-words and the phrases
that help to express your opinion. 3) Собственно защита проектов.
T: Now listen to the projects
attentively and choose the best. Be ready to become an opponent and to ask
questions! The first project is about relations with parents. Welcome!
P1: To begin with, I think
that the life of a man consists of a large number of different problems. And
teenagers have as many problems as the grown-ups. Their problem number one is
that of "fathers and sons”, to my mind. That’s why our group has chosen the
topic.
We have analysed the reasons
of the problem. It seems to me, teenagers consider themselves independent, they
try to break all the rules. As a result, some of them run away from home,
others have quarrels with their parents. It helps them to think that they are
free, but that’s a delusion.
On the other hand, it sounds
awful but very often parents can’t understand their own child. Moreover, they
try to choose school, university, job, friends, later husband or wife to their
children. They even don’t want to ask them if children agree with their
decision. To sum it up, parents can’t or maybe don’t want to see a person in
their child. That is the second reason of misunderstanding between parents and
teenagers.
T: These are the reasons of
the problems with parents. And what about the project itself?
P2: It’s my turn. To begin
with, we have made our project in the form of a problem page in a teenage
magazine called "New Hotline Magazine”. You can see teenagers’ letters about
problems with parents here. They are:
forbidding to go out after 10,
to play computer games for a
long time,
to watch TV late at night,
not getting enough pocket
money,
asking doing housework,
studying hard,
having different tastes in
music, TV programmes, fashion, etc.
According to our servey, the
most common problem is not allowing to go out after 10.
Then the problem of studying
hard comes.
Not getting enough pocket
money is next.
Opponent: What problems with
parents do you have?
Do they allow you to go out
after 10?
T: Is there any way out do you
think? Can we solve the problem?
P3: We think it’s possible to
solve the problem. First of all, young people should listen to their parents
and try to find understanding. As a rule, grown-ups love there children and
wish them the best.
But on the contrary, adults
need to remember that some years ago they were teenagers too and they had the
same problems as we have now. To my mind, they should direct us to the right
way because our personality isn’t formed yet.
Opponent: What ways to achieve
understanding do you offer?
P3: As I have already said, we
offer:
to
listen to parents advice,
to follow their advice,
to help about the house,
to try
to study well,
not to ignore all the rules,
to talk things over with parents.
T: Great! Thank you! And what
is your life at school like? Natasha and Lena, welcome!
(Далее
следует презентация проекта с использованием интерактивной доски и слайдов.)
P4: School is our second home.
We spend about six hours here. That’s why we’d like to tell you about our
school life.
P5: Our school building is
modern and new. It’s only five years old. The official name of our school is
SECONDARY SCHOOL 12 WITH EXTENSIVE LEARNING OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. We have
English five days a week.
P4: All grown-ups pay much attention
to our students’ health. We have a great gym, where we can go in for different
sports, a special room for optional physical classes. Any person can visit a
dentist and consult a nurse, have lunch or tasty dinner at our school
dining-room or café. Such beautiful places help us to relax and to feel
comfortable at school.
P5: Some students like school,
others don’t but they all study for eleven years and gain knowledge by doing
different tasks. We have classes in Russian, Literature, Mathematics, History,
Geography, Biology, etc. Computer classes are for studying Information
Technology and Computer Programming. We can use the Internet here as well.
P4: My classmates aren’t well
disciplined sometimes and as a result their knowledge isn’t good enough. When
our teachers criticize us, they try to correct our students’ actions, to my
mind.
P5: After school we don’t
usually go home right away. We often have out-of-class activities. Many
students take part in different clubs. Some of us like to go in for sports,
others prefer dancing or hiking.
P4: School is not only a place
of education. We always feel at home here. I’m on good terms with my classmates
and we often spend time together.
Opponent: Some people think
that school years are the happiest in their life. Can you say you are happy at
school? Why?
P5: I think that the most
important role of school is giving knowledge. I can say that my school gives me
such knowledge. I like my teachers and classmates, that’s why I’m happy at
school.
T: I’m glad to hear that!
Thank you! The next project is about your free time.
P6: My group and I liked the
project on free time. We tried to analyse my classmates’ activities. Firstly,
we have made up a questionnaire. Secondly, we asked our classmates to answer 10
questions. Students were interviewed about their activities. Listen to one of
the interviews. Then the results were brought back to the group. Finally, we
have made the graphs. Here they are. We have 10 activities on our list. They
are:
(учащийся
комментирует данные своего исследования).
Going out with friends is the
most popular.
Chattering and discussing the
last news is more popular with the girls.
Idling about is preferred by
boys.
Opponent: Have you got any
recommendations?
P6: Yes, we’d like our
classmates to pay attention to their likes and dislikes. It’s in our hands,
after all, to make our lives more interesting. Devote your free time to some
exciting and useful hobbies, but don’t just idle about, hang around street
corners and do nothing.
Opponent: What is your hobby,
by the way?
P6: As for me, (I’m fond of
…I’m interested in …My hobby is…)
Opponent: All teenagers want
to have enough pocket money, don’t they?
P6: Of course, they do. I’m
sure that all teenagers want to have a lot of money to dress well, to go to
discos, to buy books, disks, etc. They have to earn money. I think it’s
possible to do it. Some boys wash cars, the others sell newspapers and so on.
T: Good job! I knew you could
do it! The topic of free time is connected with that of smoking, drugs and
alcohol, isn’t it? What is your attitude to them? Yulya is the leader of the
next group. (Презентация проекта
сопровождается демонстрацией слайдов на интерактивной доске).
P7: To my mind, the problem is very actual for teenagers. As is known, there are many temptations now, such as:
alcohol, drugs, cigarette. Moreover, it isn’t so easy to manage them,
especially for teenagers, whose psychology isn’t stable enough.
There are a lot of reasons, as
teenagers think, to use all these things. Some of them try to look cool guys,
others just want to use something new and modern, I think. As is known, teenagers
start taking drugs or smoking when they have no hobby or something interesting
to do.
We must remember: smoking is
very dangerous for our health. Research shows that each cigarette knocks five
minutes off your life. It kills 50 000 people a year.
As for the drugs, it’s one of
the greatest problems of the 21st century. If some of your friends
take drugs, it’s better for him to tell his parents about it to save his life.
He will be helped I’m sure. Or after a month or a year your best friend may die.
To sum it up, stop in time!
Think about your future! That is not for you!
T: Well done! You are the 9th
formers now. It’s time to present the project "Choosing a job”.
P8: We are going to have
examinations this year. Therefore the question what to do after the exams is
very important for my classmates. Many roads are open before us: technical
schools, colleges, we may go to work or stay at school and go to the tenth
Form.
Our group has made the graphs.
The first one shows my
classmates’ plans for the nearest future. There are 27 students in our class.
59 % of them are going to
continue studying at school (in the 10th Form)
11 % want to enter a college,
30 % want to enter a technical
school.
Opponent: And what group are
you going to join?
P8: As for me, I haven’t
decided yet. But we still have time to think and to choose.
T: And what is your second
graph about?
P9: May I explain it?
We can find information about
jobs at a number of different places. For example, we have a Job centre at our
school. There is a lot of information about any job here. Our careers teacher
Marina Sergeyevna arranges visits to factories, offices and colleges, invites
people from local organizations to come to our school to talk to the students.
Parents and friends also play a very important role in our choices.
The second graph shows who or
what has helped us to do the choice:
parents helped to choose a
profession to 74 % of my classmates,
Job centre and careers
teachers – to 15 %,
friends – to 11 % of students.
Opponent: Who helped you to do
the choice?
P10: One more problem is to
get good education. It’s necessary to pay for a good education. I can’t enter
the Institute without good knowledge.
Our third graph shows my
classmates’ results (knowledge) in marks in the first term:
7 % have excellent results,
22 % have good knowledge,
30 % have got fair marks.
I think we have to study hard
to have good knowledge and to fulfil our dreams.
Opponent: What is your dream,
by the way?
Have you good marks in all
subjects?
P10: I’ve got good marks but I
try to study better and to have very good knowledge.
T: Good of you! These are our
projects today. Whose do you like best and why?
P11: I like the project on …
because it’s the most interesting (exciting, emotional). I’m fond of its
computer presentation (photos, posters, graphs, funny illustrations).
P12: To my mind, our project
is the best because we’ve prepared more carefully for it.
IV. Подведение итогов. Завершение урока.
T: As for me, I’m pleased with
all your projects today. You’ve worked really hard. I give you only very good
and good marks. Your home assignment is to answer the questions about your
project work. We’ll analyse it at our next lesson.
And now I hope that our
conversation about teenage life and problems as well as your advice will help
you to survive in our difficult life, to overcome difficulties and to get on
with all people around you.
You are free now. See you
later.
