Thanksgiving Day

Цели:

  1. Формирование и развитие коммуникативных умений и навыков учащихся по иностранному языку.
  2. Повышение духовно-нравственной культуры учащихся.
  3. Отвлечение учащихся от негативных явлений современной жизни.

Задачи:

  1. Продолжить работу по ознакомлению учащихся с англоязычными странами, их традициями и культурой.
  2. Показать значимость и важность изучения английского языка в современном мире, учить общаться по теме на английском языке.
  3. Учить уважительному отношению к культуре и обычаям другой страны
  4. Активизировать творческую деятельность учащихся посредством привлечения театрализованных форм обучения, информационных и игровых технологий.

Оборудование: рисунки, посвященные празднику Дня Благодарения в США, компьютер и мультимедийный проектор с экраном, мини-спектакли, тесты.

Ход урока

I. Орг.момент:

Hello children. How are you? Who is on duty today? Is anybody absent today? What date is it today?

Today Americans celebrate one of the famous holiday. Do you know what holiday it is?

Yes, it is Thanksgiving Day! Do you know what it is devoted to? Why do Americans celebrate it? When did they begin to celebrate it?

Today at our lesson we’ll know about the origin of it? The aim of our lesson is to learn more about this holiday. You should listen, take part in the discussion, recite the poems, play game and at the end of the lesson do the test.

Let’s begin our lesson with phonetic exercise – read this poem.

II. Фонетическая зарядка.

Учащиеся читают стихотворение несколько раз, а учитель каждый раз стирает отдельные слова.

IV. Рассказы учащихся об истории праздника.

Now Let’s listen the story about Thanksgiving Day.

1st pupil –Every year on the fourth Thursday in November, Americans celebrate a purely American holiday called Thanksgiving Day. This is a day for family reunions. American families meet for a special dinner, usually with turkey, cranberry sauce, pumpkin and pies. They give thanks to God for the past year, and remember the first harvest of the first English settlers of the Plymouth colony in 1621.

2nd pupil – This is a family holiday. Families come together for a special dinner. In some places special religious services are held in the morning. Then comes the traditional feast. Turkey with stuffing is the main dish. It is served with sweet potatoes, squash, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. Apple cider is the drink of the day. After dinner the family will relax and talk. Football is the most popular game on this day. For many schools the Thanksgiving Day game is the most important one of the year. Usually there are several football games to watch on TV.

3d pupil – The first Thanksgiving Day was celebrated by Pilgrims 1621. In the fall of 1620, one hundred Pilgrims came to the United States from England. Half of the people came for religious freedom. All came for new lives. They sailed from Plymouth, England, on September, 16, 1620. Their ship was called the "Mayflower”. They Landed at Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts, on December, 26, 1620.

4th pupil – The first winter was a terrible time. The Pilgrims were hungry, sick and cold. Many people died. Then the native Americans, the Indians, helped the Pilgrims. They taught the Pilgrims how to plant corn, to built houses, to fish, to hunt and how to survive in America. The crops did well, and in the fall of 1621 the Pilgrims had a great harvest. They were thankful and decided to celebrate with a feast. The Pilgrims invited their Indian friends to share this Thanksgiving feast.

5th pupil – Stores, classrooms and homes are decorated with turkeys, Pilgrims, Indians, wreaths of dried flowers and vegetables. Horns of plenty are also very popular. Charitable organizations serve dinners to needy people. They also send baskets of food to the elderly and sick. Macy’s department store holds its annual Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. Celebrities, floats, bands, and balloons shaped like famous story- book and cartoon characters appear in the parade. Santa Claus arrives at the end. His coming marks the beginning of the Christmas season.

7th pupil – Pilgrim Children Pilgrim Children worked hard all day Pilgrim Children had little time to play The first child chopped lots of wood The second child helped make the family’s food The third child helped keep the horses fed The fourth child made a mattress for his bed The fifth child made soap and a candle The sixth child turned the meat-roasting handle Pilgrim Children worked hard all day Pilgrim Children had little time to play.

8th pupil – Five Plump Turkeys. This plump turkey spread his tail like a fan This plump turkey away he run This plump turkey flew up in a tree This plump turkey gobbled at me This plump turkey said "I’ll leave right away, So the cook can’t find me on Thanksgiving Day”

VIII. Игры с учащимися.

Let’s have fun. It will be the interesting game.

The first game is known for you.

You have to put one of the leaves to the turkey’s tail with blinded eyes.

The second game is new and interesting.

It’s name is "Mr.Turkey”. One pupil sit on the chair with his eyes closed. Another pupil then knocks. The pupil on the chair asks, ”Who’s there?” The pupil answers "Mr.Turkey”

Then the pupil on the chair have to guess who Mr.Turkey is.
