always polluted their surroundings. But until now pollution was
not such a serious problem. People lived in uncrowned rural
areas and did not have pollution — causing machines. With the
development of crowded industrial cities which put huge amounts
of pollutants into small areas, the problem has become more
important. |
Since ancient
times Nature has served Man, being the source of his life. For
thousands of years people lived in harmony with environment and
it seemed to them that natural riches were unlimited. But with
the development of civilization man's interference in nature
began to increase. |
More people
are
abusing drugs today than in any other time in history of
mankind, and many of those people are youth. Understanding
what drugs are is fundamental for understanding their potential
abuse. Drugs are a psychoactive substance. |

glue, butane gas, solvents are made on solvent base. That is why
they can be used for sniffing and then receiving post effects of
visual hallucinations. |

correctly referred to as an expressway of big city centre at
rush hour. |
Television now
plays an important role in our life. It is difficult to say if
it is good or bad for us. It is clear, that television has
advantages and disadvantages. |
Our world is
becoming an increasingly complex place in which, we are very
dependent on other people and organizations. An event in some
distant part of the globe can rapidly and significantly affect
the quality of life in our home country. |
The Internet has
already entered our ordinary life. Everybody
knows that the Internet is a global computer network, which
embraces hundred of millions of users all over the world and
helps us to communicate with each other. |
Computer is an
electronic device that can receive a set of instructions called
program and then carry out them. The modern world of high
technology could not be possible without computers. Different
types and sizes of computers find uses throughout our society. |
I am sure, in
order to have a good job one should know foreign languages. The
most widespread languages in the world are Chinese, Spanish,
English and some others. But every well-educated person in the
world speaks English, because it is the language of
communication, business, science and culture. |
Modern life is
impossible without travelling. Thousands of people travel every
day either on business or for pleasure. They can travel by air,
by rail, by sea or by road. |
People began to
travel ages ago. The very first travellers were explorers who
went on trips to find wealth, fame or something else. |
We did quite a
lot of subjects at school. They were: Physics, Mathematics,
Biology, Russian Literature, Chemistry, English, History of this
country and many other subjects. |
It's a universal
truth that every season is beautiful in its own way. Isn't it
wonderful to tramp down the country lanes on a frosty winter
day. Everything is white with snow and it crunches under your
feet. The rime sparkles on the branches and the icicles like
precious diamonds hang from the roofs of the houses. |
The school I
would like would have a swimming pool. I'd have one
for
the first and second years and also for the third and fourth
years. The playgrounds would be separate, one for the young
children and the other for the senior forms.

Lots of people
find watching films one of the best ways of spending their
leisure time. Due to numerous video facilities, which have
emerged in this country over the past years, we have a chance to

In my opinion
there is a great number of different ways of spending summer
holidays. It depends on person, on his culture, education, age,
social level and personal tastes and preferences. So, everyone
likes his own way of summertime spending. |
The beach is a
traditional summer destination for thousands of people. Everyone
wants to go to the beach! Sun, surf, and sand are a magnetic
lure for millions of visitors. The wealth of things to do
includes sunbathing, jogging, boating, fishing and surfing. Ever
presented breezes keep the temperature comfortable and the water
warn. |
If you want
to
keep fit you must go in for one kind of sport or another. Sport is an
essential part of my daily life. Every morning all the year
round I do my morning exercises. Almost every day I do some
training. In summer I go swimming or rowing. |
When
we want to
buy something, we go to a shop. There are many kinds of shops in
every town or city, but most of them have a food supermarket, a
department store, men's and women's clothing stores, grocery, a
bakery and a butchery. |
I am a pupil of
the 11-th form, I study at school number 9. I would like to tell
your about our school life. I go to school
five days a week. Our classes start at 8 o'clock a. m. and last
till 3 o'clock p.m. So we have 6 or 7 lessons a day. |
We go shopping
every day. The other day my mother took me on a usual shopping
round. We went to the grocer's and greengrocer's as we had run
out of sugar and onions. |
On week days I
usually get up nearly six o'clock. I do not like to get up
early, but I have to, because I have a lot of work to do during
the day. |
My week-days
didn't differ much one from another. I
went to school six days a week. That's why, I had to wake up at
7 o'clock every morning. Sometimes
I wanted to stay in bed for some more time but my mother always
insisted on my getting up. |
After my hard and
busy school year my summer holidays began. I felt happy when
hard and busy school year finished and summer holidays began. I
started to plan a lot of wonderful things to do during my summer
vocation. |
As you become
older you realize that there are several essential things and
places you always long to come back to. They are your
birthplace, your home and the school you went to. |
We live in
three-room flat. The room I like best in our flat is mine. I use my room
as
a study and a bedroom. It is very nice and cosy. There isn't
much furniture in it, only the most necessary pieces. The
built-in furniture doesn't take much space in the room.

This year I'm
leaving school. I have already decided what career to choose. I
would like to be a psychologist.I want to
help
people to solve their problems. I want to help them to
understand their inside world, to help them to be confident. I
love working with people and children. |
