My favourite
writer is
Ernest Hemingway. He will always be remembered as a writer of prose in
which every word had meaning and where nothing was wasted. His style
had, in fact, such a widespread effect on British and American
literature that dozens of imitators appeared and today many novels are
accused of being "pseudo-Hemingway”. The son of a small-town doctor,
Hemingway was born in Illinois in 1898. |
My favorite
book is "The
Old Man and the Sea" by Ernest Hemingway. This story is one of the most
well-known works of the writer. The author depicts the characters of the
old man and the boy and their relations very vividly and skillfully.
Santiago, the old man, was one of the writer's beloved characters. |
I'm fond of
reading.
Usually I borrow books from the library, but I have a lot of them at
home, too. I like to read books about the history of our country, about
famous people and I also like detective stories. Literature means much
in my life. It helps to form the character and to understand life
better. |
Libraries play an
important part in the cultural development of people. People like
reading, they have a desire to learn, they seek for knowledge. Books
help their desire. There are a lot of books in our country, in our
flats. But it is difficult to buy all the books, which we want to read. |
Robert Burns
is a
Scottish poet. Every year on his birthday Scotsmen all over the world
gather together for a traditional celebration in which his memory is
glorified, his poems are recited and his song are sung. Burns poetry is
loved and enjoyed by all his countrymen. |
Reading plays
a very
important role in the life of people. It educates a person, enriches his
intellect. Books help to mould a person's character, his moral values.
Besides, books bring pleasure and delight. It's a wonderful way of
spending spare time. Sometimes we read the same book again and again. |
Fear is a terrible thing.
If I ask you what you are afraid of, everyone will answer something
different: lions or tigers, mice or ghosts, heights, murderers, or some
wild animal. |
Old people are always
saying that the young are not what they were. The same comment is made
from generation to generation and is always true; it has never been
truer than it is today.
These days, grown-ups describe children as
«difficult», «rude», «wild» and «irresponsible». Only some people say
that they will grow up to make our country a better place. |
On April 12
every year
the Russian people celebrate Cosmonautics Day in commemoration of the
first space flight in the world which was made by Russian citizen. |
We, humans,
live on the
Earth. And our planet Earth is surrounded by space. The sky is what we
see of space. There are billions of stars and probobly billions of other
planets moving through space. Our planet is moving through space too.
We live on the surface of our planet Earth. |
For thousands
of years
man dreamed of flying to the stars. At the beginning of the century the
great Russian scientist Tsiolkovsky predicted that "mankind will not
remain on Earth forever". Half a century later his words came true, the
dream became a reality. |
Have you
ever enjoyed a
hamburger, sitting on a lawn? May be you're against all these hot dogs
and cheeseburgers, because it's a junk food. Anyway, it is always
interesting to find out something about the origin and history of such
trifles, which make our life more comfortable They really make life more
pleasant, especially outdoors, don't they? Pop-Corn. |
Henry Ford was
born in
1863. He was a man who transformed the world. The car he built changed
the lives of people everywhere. |
Nowadays
everybody knows
that people are very busy and don’t have much time to spare. Sometimes
it’s only the weekend and I think that every day-off needs some special
planning. The English say: "Who knows how to work, knows how to rest". I
think it’s true. In my view rest is as important as work. So I try to
treasure every hour and think of the ways of having a good time in the
best way possible for me. |
Wales is a
country of
lakes and mountains. It’s about a half of the size of Switzerland, and
it has a population of two and three quarter of a million. In the north
of Wales there the most beautiful scenery on the British islands, the

An US or
American English
differs considerably from British English. Pronunciation is the most
striking difference but there are also a number of differences in
vocabulary and spelling as well as slight differences in grammar. On the
whole, British people are exposed to a lot of American English on TV,
in films and so on and they will usually understand most American
vocabulary. |
York is one of
Europe’s
historic cities. It began as an important roman city. In medieval times a
stone wall was built around it, and wall is still there today. There is
the river Omse near Lendal Bridge. And from here you can walk around
the city on the wall, it takes about two hours. |
Arkhangelsk,
also
Archangel, city, northern European Russia, capital of Arkhangelsk
Oblast, on the Northern Dvina (Severnaya Dvina) River, near the White
Sea (Beloye More). |
My friends' character It’s
nice to have a lot of friends. You can enjoy many things together. All
my classmates are rather nice but all of them have different characters.

You are lucky
if you have
grandmother in the country to go to. Visiting our old relatives gives
us excellent chances to become children again. Every time you are at
your grannies they start to take care of you. That’s why everybody loves
his grannies very much. |
The United

square kilometers. |
Frantsysk Skaryna
was a Belarusian humanist of the 16th century, a doctor of medicine, a
writer, a translator, an artist, and an enlightener. His name is linked
to an outstanding intellectual event in the life of entire East Slavic
world: the publication in the early 16th century of a considerable part
of the Bible. |
UN peace-keeping forces.
Peace-keeping
is one of the ways the UN help to maintain international peace and
security. In the UN contest, peace-keeping has been defined as the use
of multinational forces under United Nations command, to help control
and resolve conflicts between hostile states and sometimes between
hostile communities within a single state. It is a technique pioneered
by the UN – the soldier is a catalyst for peace rather than an
instrument of war. |
The Armed
Forces of
the USA include the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
The regular components are manned by both men and women who make the
military life their profession. Under the Constitution of the United
States the President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. |
The Oxford Dictionary by
Hornby gives us the following definition of the notion "art”. "Art”
is the creation or expression of what is beautiful, especially in visual
form. Drawing, painting, sculpture, architecture, literature, music,
ballet belong to the fine art”. |
I think summer
is the best season of all because it is warm, the
nature is beautiful and we have great opportunities for rest. Summer is a
time of holidays. We can go anywhere, spend our time near a river or a
lake on fresh, green grass, swim in warm water, or climb mountains, play
different games, ride a bicycle and so on. |
All the people
enjoy summer holidays very much. It is a great pleasure to have a rest
after a whole year of hard work or study. People like to travel during
their summer holidays. |
Last summer I spent
very merrily and interesting.
In June I took part in the rural
sports festival as a cheerleader. The training took three weeks and was
rather difficult but interesting. A lot of people gathered at the
stadium to watch the opening ceremony. The celebration was shown on TV. I
was brightly impressed by this festival. |
HOW I SPENT
MY SUMMER

why I`ll try to tell you. First of all, I went to the summer Camp. |
First of all
let me
introduce myself. My name is Taras.
I'm seventeen years old.
I'm
at 11-th grade.

A
lot of Australians
think you shouldn't worry too much about life. But some things
in life are really important, and to many Australian men, one of
these things is sport.
|
My working day
begins
early. I get up at six o’clock, air the room and make my bed. Then I go
to the bathroom where I wash, brush my teeth. Then I have breakfast. |
Art plays an
important
role in the life of a man and sometimes it is next to impossible to live
without it. It is natural that the first thing that comes to my mind at
the mention of the word ‘art’ is museums. |
The State
Hermitage in
St. Petersburg ranks among the world’s most outstanding art museums. It
is the largest museum in Russia: nowadays its vast and varied
collections take up four buildings; its rooms if stretched in one line
would measure many miles in total length, while they cover an area of
94240 square meters.

Speaking about
art
galleries of London we should first of all mention The National Gallery,
The National Portrait Gallery and The Tate gallery.
